Joe was sparked at age 19 after watching Tyson become the youngest heavyweight champ.

In 1987 he joined P.A.L. (Police Athletic League) and also boxed at the Charlotte boxing academy and a few other gyms in between.

Entered into ‘88, ’91 and ‘92 Golden Gloves (Amateur Boxing
Tournament in Charlotte)

   

Won 1996 Kings Mountain Tuffman contest

Competed in another Tuffman contest in 2001

Started Southside Boxing in 1998 and changed its name in 2003 to Contenders Boxing Gyms

Joe was so busy working with new people that he hired other coaches and trainers to help some of the guys who wanted to go further with their boxing.
